The After school Program hosted a number of
special events over the past month.

Reading Night

We hosted our first Family Reading Night on March 8th. The event consisted of parents reading to their children, complimentary books to take home, and incentives to encourage families reading together. More than 20 families participated in the program and we anticipate that all families will take advantage of this awesome opportunity. The program is sponsored by ComCast and will continue the first Wednesday of each month at our monthly Parent Meeting

Tsunami Relief Fundraiser

The Center’s youth designed arts and crafts and sold them to raise money for the Tsunami victims. The event raise $70.00 and the proceeds will be presented at the April Parent Meeting. We want to extend a special thanks to Matrix Arts, the parents, and our RFDC youth. Great job!

Black History Program

We also celebrated Black History Month with our Annual Black RFDC Heroes. The evening included recitals by our youth, presentations to community heroes, special music and dinner. The RFDC Family would like to thank The Plantation, (desert caterer), and other supporters of this event.

Latin Heritage

RFDC paid tribute to the Latin American Community in honor of Latin Heritage month.

To kick off the event, our very own CSUS team leader Claudia De Jesus was our Master of Ceremony.

Chief of police Al Najera and Lela Randolph's 5th and 6th graders gave honor to our heroes, while the Aztec Troupe Maquill Tonatiuh dancers touched us with a rumbling latin beat. Among those honored along with Najera were:

Stella Guzman, Community Member; Kaiser Permanete, RFDC Business Partner; Frank Larios, North Sacramento Business Owner and Melinda Guzman, Attorney and UC Board of Regent Member.

Very special thanks to RFDC Friend Amparo Perez Cook, staff members Lela Randolph, Lisa Collins, Kim Folkes and Rosie Cansimbe for their behind the scenes support.
