Congresswoman Doris Matsui made a recent visit to our Center and had an opportunity to see first-hand why her late husband Congressman Bob was an early supporter of our efforts. Mrs. Matusi had a chance to spend nearly an hour and a half, touring the Center with Board Members Matt Kelly and Walter Edwards. She also saw up close and personal the academic support given to children attending the Center. She met with students and parents picking up their children. Noted one parent Robin Roselle, “the Congresswoman is a big supporter of the community, and I’m glad to see her here.”
She later heard the vision of Co-Founders Derrell & Tina Roberts as they discussed future expansion plans that will include the building of a Health & Education Center in honor of the late Congressman Matsui. Bob had become a mentor to Derrell through his colleague the late Congressman Julian Dixon, Derrell’s first non-family mentor. We think she took away a greater appreciation for the mission of the Center, and the role we play to families in this community.
