First Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
RFDC Community Restoration Project

On January 16, 2005, our Center was selected to take part in the First Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community Restoration Project, sponsored by “Hands on Sacramento”, a full-service volunteer center, which works with individuals, businesses, nonprofits and other community groups to impact the Sacramento area by increasing volunteer efforts.

We were fortunate to be one of the organizations that benefited from this day of “service, reflection and celebration.” The projects the group completed on included re-painting the inside of the (Discovery) childcare center, general cleaning, minor repairs, cleaning out the gutters and organizing storage spaces. They was also a “minor miracle” when a single volunteer revamped Mr. Roberts office. More than 70 volunteers came from American River Bank, AmeriCorp, PG&E, North Sacramento Methodist Church, CPS, U. C. Davis, the Sacramento Regional Foundation RFDC parents, staff and the community to help with these tasks. Students from the Grant High Law Enforcement Academy were also on hand.

The mission of the Roberts Family Development Center is to provide services to the North Sacramento community that meet the individual needs of each family member. Our services provide a holistic approach focusing on early childhood and family education, economic development and technology. Our goal is to nurture personal growth, strengthen families and enhance community development and civic involvement.
