After School Volunteers

High School Service Volunteers – mentor and tutor student in our After School Program or Summer Camp for a few hours a week. A little time makes a big difference. See below for descriptions of “tutor” and “mentor”.

Tutors – Tutors at RFDC assist students with their homework and provide extra help in reading and math. Tutors help decrease the ratio of students to staff members. Extra tutors enable our students to have the most one-on-one time possible.

Mentors – Mentors at RFDC play a crucial role in students’ success. They give students real examples of young adults making good choices and succeeding in academics. It is absolutely imperative that students are exposed to and have access to positive role models because of the support they provide and the good example they set. Mentors assist team leaders in the afternoons Monday-Friday.

Roberts Family Development Center Volunteers

Phone Receptionist – Warm person is needed to answer phones, greet visitors, and answer questions. Must be willing to volunteer time.

Mature Storytellers – Someone who can volunteer their time on regular basis (once a week, once every two weeks) to the Childcare Center, After School Program, or ESL classes, reading stories or recounting stories from memory, honoring the oral traditions of some of our ancestors. Storytellers help our ESL students better understand English, and our After School students and Childcare kids really enjoy your stories!

Retired Professionals – We’d like to have retired professionals visit the center that are willing to share their experience with us. Wisdom, knowledge and patience are required. All subjects and all occupations are needed.

Master Gardener – Person with green thumb is needed to help our office plants and newly established garden stay alive!

Computer Café Volunteers

Tech Support – This person would volunteer time in the computer lab providing “techie” type assistance to our kids and parents.

Other Volunteers

Kings Concession Volunteers – RFDC volunteers work at the Concession Stand at Kings Games. Responsibilities include serving food items and beverage items before and during the game. You can make a difference in our community and be at a Kings Game all at the same time!

Fundraising Volunteers – Someone who can help out at fundraising events, other special events and receptions for funders and other important people.

Inventory Volunteers – Volunteers needed to help us organize and inventory a closet full of resources at our after school program. This will help us to be more effective in the use of the resources we receive and the resources we purchase. You might even have a few ideas about how to use existing resources for a project of your own. We’re open to creative suggestions.
