Night Life Turned Right
Night Life Turned Right
In April of 2015, under the direction of District 2 Councilman/Vice Mayor, Wayne Allen Warren, District 2 was given an opportunity to create a Summer Program that would offer safe and enriching nighttime activities to North Sacramento area youth. Modeled after the Summer Night Lights program located in South Sacramento, the goal was to give youth a safe, fun, and nurturing place to go during the summer weekends at night. Understanding both the large scale and need of such a program in District 2, our Councilman tasked RFDC with the challenge of bringing the vision to life. In order to increase youth’s buy-in to the program, a naming and logo contest was held at Grant Union High School.
The program was dubbed Night Life Turned Right (NLTR). The goal of NLTR is to affect positive change by saving and transforming the lives, minds, and perceptions of our youth through recreation, education, and holistic enrichment in a safe and family oriented environment. NLTR’s Steering Committee brings together over 30 North Sacramento/Del Paso heights groups and community leaders: community based organizations, faith based organizations, community associations, law enforcement, Twin Rivers School District, and more. NLTR is open Thursday- Saturday evening from 6PM to 11PM during 8 weeks each summer and serves on average over 500 individuals each night. Attendants who arrive early receive a free meal and everyone is welcome to participate in family friendly entertainment and educational activities.
