As one of the last steps before transitioning into adulthood, high school is a crucial time in youth’s development when many potentially life altering decisions are made.  The Pacers Moving Forward Initiative provides academic support, college preparation, work experience, life skills enrichments, civic involvement, and parent engagement services that positively affect students choices.  The Initiatives goals are to increase the number of students who graduate high school on time, to make youth aware of their responsibility to society, and to increase the number of youth who pursue higher education.  Pacers Moving Forward serves 70-85 Grant Union High School 9th-12th grade students Monday-Thursday during the school year.

In 2016, Pacers parent meetings had an average attendance of 63% of families present.  Grant Union High School Principal Mr. Darris Hinson who is a 16-year veteran staff member at Grant and a Grant alumnus himself commended RFDC on a parent event that was held for Pacers Moving Forward families, “It was refreshing to see that many parents show up.  In all my years here I don’t think I have seen that many of our parents on this campus in support of their kids academics.”
